OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Metropolis schooling officers say an area faculty will not be named after Accomplice Gen. Robert E. Lee. However the determination will not require a lot of a reputation change.
The Oklahoma Metropolis College Board agreed Monday that Lee Elementary College would now be named after Adelaide Lee, an Oklahoma philanthropist. The varsity district says she empowered girls and kids with entry to schooling and day care providers.
The board additionally unanimously voted to interchange the names of colleges named after two different Accomplice generals: Stonewall Jackson and Stand Watie.
Jackson Enterprise Elementary can be renamed after Mary Golda Ross, a Native American engineer from Tahlequah recognized for her aerospace work at Lockheed Martin. A college named for Watie will turn out to be Esperanza, the Spanish phrase for “hope.”
The board voted in October to rename the colleges.
